Dealkalizer Systems
Dealkalizers are offered in fiberglass tank / top mounted valve AND steel tank / diaphragm valve nest configurations. Where as, a water softener removes the cations (positive ions) from the water, a dealkalizer removes the anions (negative ions) from the water (carbonates, sulfates, nitrates, chlorides, etc.). Alkalinity reduction is the most common use for a dealkalizer. The inlet water to a dealkalizer must be soft water and typically duplex alternating dealkalizers are advised. Like a water softener, a dealkalizer is regenerated with salt, except at a substantially lower dosage. Sometimes, caustic soda is used along with the salt during regeneration to increase resin capacity.
